Introduction to Speedskating

The Alaska Speedskating Club holds free "Introduction to Speedskating" Clinics at the University of Alaska, Wells Fargo Sports Complex and at the Eagle River Harry MacDonald Center. The clinics re supervised by the Club's U.S. Speedskating certified coaches.

Club President Steve Nelson said the following about a previous clinic;

"It was absolutely fantastic to see so many new faces, of all ages, come out to try speedskating at the free clinic. Speedskating is an excellent sport for all ages, developing skills in balance, endurance, strength, and sportsmanship. We had skaters of all abilities from about age five to sixty-five. You rarely see that age range in other sports. It was so great to see to people wanting to learn new skills."

The Alaska Speedskating Club started its regular season in September

The month of September serves as an Introduction to Speedskating for new members and new participants. New skaters may bring their own skates or try real speedskates from the Club. Club equipment is available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Long sleeve shirts and pants are required. Helmets are available from the Club.
